Wormwood In Native American culture
Artemisia spinescens is occasionally used for
smudge sticks. Artemesias, sometimes called
sage, belong to the wormwood family; they have
no connection to the sage we know in Europe.
Wormwood
Wormwood is masculine, ruled by Mars, with
the Element of Air. Wormwood is poisonous but
is sometimes burned in smudge sticks to gain
protection from wandering spirits. It is said that
it enables the dead to be released from this plane
so they may find peace. It is also used in
divinatory and clairvoyance incenses, initiation
rites and tests of courage. Mixed with
sandalwood, it summons spirits
