The Energy of Mars

The energy of Mars lends us the strength to take action; it’s not a gentle energy but bold. Guard yourself against other’s negative vibes by wearing red jasper, increase the potency of your magickal workings by burning dragon’s blood or add some to your charms. Use this bold energy to motivate you to start something you’ve been putting off. Empower yourself for success by cooking with Mars related foods and seasonings such as basil, onions or garlic … add a bit of chili pepper for added fiery energy.

Let this fiery power strengthen your resolve to attain your goals … your magick is powerful, let it rule your day!!!

Casting Spells Using Planetary Hours Magical Timing

Not every Witch worries about magical timing, but many feel that it gives a boost
of energy that is conducive to your efforts.
Another way to plan your magical timing is by planetary hours. Planetary hours
are useful if the ideal moon phase or moon sign is not possible when you want to
cast your spell. They will lend you even more energy to your moon phase and
moon sign timing.
Calculating planetary hours requires a bit of math, but if you can tell time and
divide, you will be fine. It looks more complex than it actually is, so let’s get
started.
What You Need to Know to Cast Spells
1. Planetary influence
2. The planetary hour
3. How to calculate daylight planetary hours
4. How to calculate nighttime planetary hours
5. The Chaldean order and the planets’ ruling days
6. How to piece it all together

1. How to Cast Spells Based on Planetary Influence
Planetary hours are the hours in the day associated with the various planets that
have astrological influence: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon,
and then the pattern is repeated. This sequence is known as the Chaldean order.
The Chaldean order is an ancient philosophy that is based on the planets’
distance and velocity relative to their centers of orbit from a heliocentric
perspective, as well as their astrological spheres from a geocentric perspective.
Each hour is ruled by a planet, and thus the planet’s influences briefly come into
play. Each day iskicked off by a different planetary influence. The difference that
seems to confuse everyone is that planetary hours do not match the 60 minute
hours of man-made time. They depend on the exact moments of sunrise and
sunset.

2. Example of How to Cast Spells with Planetary Hours
Let’s say I want to cast a spell to help me with a career goal. Ideally, for my goal,
the moon would be in Capricorn, but the moon doesn’t enter Capricorn until near
the end of the month. Worse, Mercury is in retrograde from now until February
28th, and that won’t do at all! I just can’t wait, so I decide to use the planetary
hours of Saturn to draw the influences from it that I need, and I choose to do the
spell on February 13th because the moon phase is good and I’m off that night.
So let’s walk through the process of how to cast spells for the best outcome with
planetary hours. I promise, try it a couple of times and you’ll find it’s not as
complicated as you think!
3. How to Calculate Daylight Planetary Hours to Cast Spells
The bolded text below are instructions for how to calculate planetary hours. The
non-bolded text is how I would calculate using the specific February 13th example
above.
1. Find the exact moments of sunrise and sunset.
You can find that in your local newspaper, or by going online. For my example, I
looked up the time of the sunrise in my local paper. On February 13th, the sun is
rising at 7:10 A.M. and setting at 6:20 P.M.

2. Calculate the number of minutes between sunrise and sunset.
From 7:10 A.M. to 7:59 A.M. there are 49 minutes until the start of sunrise until
the complete sunrise. From 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. is 10 hours until the start of sunset.
Multiplied by 60 minutes (10 hours X 60 minutes = 600 minutes). From 6:01
through 6:19 gives me 18 minutes until complete sunset. If I add 49 minutes + 600
minutes + 18 minutes = 668 minutes of daylight hours.

3. Divide the number of daylight minutes by 12.
There are 668 minutes between sunrise and sunset on February 13th, so we would
calculate 668/12 = 55.58. In our example, we’ll only use the even minutes. Each
planetary hour will be about 55 minutes long.
4. Figure out the times your daylight planetary hours begin and end.
in our example, since the sun is rising at 7:10 A.M. we’ll start there and keep
adding 55 minutes. The calculation for February 13th’s daylight hours are in the
table below.

Example of Calculated Daylight Hours for Feb. 13th
Time Hour
7:10 am to 8:05 am 1st planetary hour
8:06 am to 9:01 am 2nd planetary hour
9:02 am to 9:56 am 3rd planetary hour
9:58 am to 10:53 am 4th planetary hour
10:54 am to 11:49 am 5th planetary hour
11:50 am to 12:45 pm 6th planetary hour
12:46 pm to 1:41 pm 7th planetary hour
1:42 pm to 2:37 pm 8th planetary hour
2:38 pm to 3:33 pm 9th planetary hour
3:34 pm to 4:29 pm 10th planetary hour
4:30 pm to 5:25 pm 11th planetary hour
5:26 pm to 6:20 pm 12th planetary hour*
*Note that because of that .58 of a second there can be slight variations and it may
not come out precise—that’s okay, though; less than 6/10 of a second difference
is not enough to really matter

Planetary Hour Fun Fact
There are 2 days of the year when your planetary hours will be exactly the same
for daytime and night time: The spring and autumn equinoxes. On these two
days, daytime and night time are completely balanced, 12 hours long each.
It’s also the only two days of the year when your planetary hours will actually be
60 minute hours!
4. Casting Spells Using Night time Planetary Hours
Now, I’m only half-way through calculating a 24 hour period. I’ve calculated the
first 12 daylight planetary hours, now I want to calculate the 12 night time
planetary hours. The process is roughly the same, but the length of each hour will
almost always be different. Remember, for half the years, days are longer and
nights are shorter; for the other half of the year, that reverses.
1. Find the time of sunset and the time of the next day’s sunrise.
Using our example, the sun is set hour is 6:20 pm; the sun rise the next morning
is 7:09 am (a minute earlier than the day before).
2. Calculate the minutes between sunset and sunrise.
6:21 pm to 6:59 pm = 38 minutes. There are 12 hours between 7 am and 7 pm, so
12*60= 720 minutes. 7:01 am to 7:09 am = 8 minutes. I add up all the minutes: 38
+ 720 +8 = 766 minutes between sunset and next day sunrise.
3. Divide the minutes between sunset and next day sunrise by 12 to find the length
of night time planetary hours.
766/12 = 63.91. So that’s 63 minutes long for each night time planetary hour on
Feb. 13th.
4. Complete the chart, picking it up where you left off.
In my example, I would be adding 63 minutes for each planetary hour, and the
remainder of my chart to cast spells by planetary hours would look like this:

Example of Calculated Planetary Hours for Feb. 13th
Time Hour
6:20 pm to 7:23 pm 13th planetary hour
7:24 pm to 8:27 pm 14th planetary hour
8:28 pm to 9:32 pm 15th planetary hour*
9:33 pm to 10:36 pm 16th planetary hour
10:37 pm to 11:40 pm 17th planetary hour
11:41 pm to 12:45 am 18th planetary hour*
12:46 am to 1:49 am 19th planetary hour
1:50 am to 2:53 am 20 planetary hour
2:54 am to 3:58 21st planetary hour*
3:59 am to 5:02 am 22nd planetary hour
5:03 am to 6:06 am 23rd planetary hour
6:07 am – 7:09 pm 24th planetary hour
*Note that here we have a .91 variation here, which actually does make some
difference, because that’s almost one whole second difference. To compensate, for
every 3rd hour, I’m going to add 1 second to keep it more even. Again, calculations
will be
5. Using the Chaldean Order in Sequence
Now you know (roughly) what time each planetary hourbegins and what time it
ends for a full 24-hour period. Now you’re going to apply the Chaldeon order of
planets to it. This will depend on the day of the week.
Each day of the week, the first planetary hour begins with a different planet. You
can see examples of this in the table below.
Planets Ruling Days of the Week
Day of the Week Ruling Planet
Sunday Sun
Monday Moon
Tuesday Mars
Wednesday Mercury
Thursday Jupiter
Friday Venus
Saturday Saturn

6. So How Does It All Fit Together?
1. Figure out the ruling planet of the day.
In my case, the ruling planet on February 13th would be Jupiter, since the day falls
on a Thursday.
2. Make the ruling planet of the day your first planetary hour for that day.
My first planetary hour is from 7:10 to 8:05 A.M. for Thursday, Feb. 13th;
therefore, my first planetary hour would be ruled by Jupiter.
3. Continue listing the rest of the planets in the Chaldean sequence. Repeat the
sequence for the rest of the day’s hours.
The Chaldean sequence was mentioned earlier: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus,
Mercury, and the Moon. Since my first planetary hour is Jupiter, I’ll start with
that, so my second planetary hour would be Mars, then the Sun, and so on.
Below, you’ll find my final calculation for casting spells on February 13th.

Bingo! I Have My Timing to Cast Spells
I found that my planetary hours will be influenced by Saturn. Now I know how to
cast spells successfully at 12:46 P.M. to 1:41 P.M., 7:24 P.M. to 8:27 P.M., or 2:54
A.M. to 3:58 A.M., despite the fact that other times would be working against me.
Sound confusing? Yes, it can seem that way, if you’re looking at it all at once. But
if you break down the steps, take them as one task at a time, you will find it’s not
all that difficult—just a bit tedious.
Still, once you get the hang of how to cast spells with planetary hours, it’ll only
take you a few minutes to figure out your timing. This scared me the first time I
was taught on how to do this. After a few tries, I could do it in 10 minutes.
To practice, actually try to calculate any day at random. By doing it just once, a lot
of the confusion falls away and you understand the process better.
When it comes to casting spells, my magical motto is, “every little bit helps!” Any
little boost I can use to affect my spell, I’m going to take it. If you’re already
working with magical timing when spell casting, give planetary hours a try

The Planets

Before delving into the Planets, I’d like to point out that although the names of the Planets are also the names of Gods and Goddesses, it is an error to limit your understanding of the Planets by giving too much emphasis to the qualities ascribed to their divine namesakes.

The Planets also correlate to the spheres on the Tree of Life (Qabala) and have other attributes that are only taught in an astrological context.

The Planets are also associated in different magickal systems with a variety of beings, such as intelligences, spirits, angels, archangels, and more.

Each Planet is a container for an incredibly wide array of characteristics and qualities.

As I mentioned earlier, Astrology can be likened to a language.

The Planets serve the lexical role of nouns.

So if you recall your days in grammar class, you’ll be able to remember that a noun is a person, place, thing, or idea.

The word “planet” is derived from ancient Greek and means “wandering star.”

Unlike the fixed stars in the night sky whose relationship to each other seems not to change, the Planets are those lights that are seen to move over time.

This is not the definition used in astronomy.

For example, in Astrology, the Moon is considered a Planet because of its apparent motion.

As you may know, in 2006 astronomers demoted Pluto from the status of Planet to dwarf Planet.

In Astrology, Pluto remains a Planet because it moves through our sky and has been verified to have specific effects in astrological charts.

Some of you may be asking, what about the asteroids and the other dwarf Planets? Many astrologers are using some of the asteroids and dwarf Planets in their charts.

I certainly do. I say some of the asteroids and dwarf Planets because many of them are so recently discovered that there has not been enough time to fully determine what they mean.

For the scope of this book, the chapter on the Planets will focus on the basic set that is used in magickal practices, although there will be some passing reference to the asteroids and the dwarf Planets.

The Planets are states of being and sources of particular sorts of power.

In Western esotericism, the Planets when attributed to the spheres on the Tree of Life (sephiroth of the Qabala) can be referred to as the mundane chakras.

This is an interesting phrase that can be interpreted in many different ways.

Imagine for a moment that our solar system is like the body of an immense celestial being.

Within this celestial being the Planets are like its subtle centers that take the universal flux which contains all things, and condense and focus that energy and that essence into specific patterns and qualities.

In the human energy field, the subtle bodies, the chakras are also particularized energetic centers.

In Astrology, the Planets also represent different parts and functionalities within the human self and psyche.

Although much of modern Astrology is anthropocentric, all of its concepts are also applicable to the whole of the manifest world and all its life.

This more universal application becomes very important in matters of Magick and ritual where we see the Planets and Signs correlated to minerals, herbs, metals, and more.

The Planets: Mercury

Mercury is the closest and densest planet in the solar system to the Sun.

Its interior is composed of a huge iron core.

This is thought to be partially molten and acts like a dynamo generating Mercury’s weak magnetic field.

In Roman mythology, Mercury was the god of trade and profit, merchants and travelers.

The god Mercury with his winged feet is known as the messenger of the gods; he symbolizes contact, communication, any transportation, flow, swiftness, playfulness, and flexibility.

The Planets: MercuryMercury, is the natural ruling planet of the astrological signs Virgo and Gemini, deals with our intellectual capabilities, how we sort, collect, classify and interpret information, it also deals with all forms of communications.

The Ancients and modern astrologers, consider Mercury to be neutral, it is neither masculine nor feminine, positive nor negative, it takes on the qualities of whatever aspects it comes in contact with.

As the ruler of Gemini and Virgo, Mercury is clever, facile, adaptable, and represents the mind, intellect, education, writing and other forms of communication, transportation, short trips, siblings, and the immediate environment.

Signs, Symbols, and Seals of MercuryIn magical workings and rituals, the ruling aspects of the planet Mercury are business, buying and selling, cleverness, communication, contracts, creativity, information, intellect, memory, perception, science, wisdom, and writing.

Mercury in its negative aspects is the root of dishonesty, deception.

Mercury is associated with the element of Air, the day Wednesday, the color Orange, the gemstones Opal, Moss Agate, Aventurine, Sodalite, and Flourite.

Of the herbs associated with Mercury, the following are the most common correspondences, Almond, Anise, Clover, Dandelion, Dill, Hyssop, Lavender, Lemongrass, Lilac, Mace, Peppermint, Rosemary, Vervain.

Saturn is the planet of stability and restriction.

Its energies test our balance and endurance.

In some ways Saturn symbolizes time, which, with its ravenous appetite for life, devours all its creations.

Saturn, like time, brings restlessness, the sense of duration lasting from the moment of stimulus up to the peak of satisfaction.

Saturn is slow, deliberate, disciplined success.

Use Saturn to improve concentration, discipline a lazy mind, become better at work, and motivate yourself.

Planetary Days And Their Applications: Mercury

Wednesday, the day of Mercury, is good for spells to assist money-making ventures.

Mercury is also good, for spells in clear communication, persuasion, adaptability and versatility.

As well as spells for improving memory, and sharpening logic, for learning, examinations, and tests, for mastering new technology, for short-distance or brief breaks, and for conventional methods of healing, especially surgery.

It is also potent for business negotiations, overcoming debts, repelling envy, malice and spite and those who would deceive.

For this reason, Mercury spells must always be used with honest intent.

Wednesday is also traditionally associated with divination.

Mercury, the planet nearest the Sun, completes its orbit in only eighty-eight days and so is named after the fleetfooted messenger god who, like his Greek predecessor, Hermes, carried the healing caduceus.

He is also linked with the Anglo-Saxon god, Woden, after whom Wednesday is named.

Mercury hour spells are good for finding a quick way out of difficulties and for melting rigid opinions in others.

Element: Air

Colour: Yellow

Crystals: Agate, citrine, falcon’s eye, jasper, malachite, onyx

Mercury rules Gemini, 22 May-21 June, and also Virgo, 24 August-22 September. In magick, it is most potent during those periods and particularly so for those born under Gemini and Virgo.

Planetary Days And Their Applications: Mars

Tuesday, the day of Mars, is good for spells for courage, taking the initiative at home, independence and separateness from others, and change.

It also represents aggression, competitiveness, and anger, all qualities that can be used positively for altruistic purpose, for example, standing out against injustice and protecting the vulnerable and loved ones under threat.

This is the lifeblood planet and so can be used to overcome seemingly impossible odds, to defeat the opposition, to survive and thrive.

It is also for physical health and vitality and so its rituals are always dynamic.

Mars rules passion and the consummation of love. Like Fire magick, the energy of Mars is very powerful and so spells should always be for positive purpose and with a circle that can afterward be closed down.

Mars was the Roman Warrior God, and the legendary father of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome.

As god of both agriculture and war, he represented the ideal Roman, first as a farmer and then as a conqueror and so the agricultural Fire festivals are linked with his power.

He is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Ares and the Viking Tyr, the altruistic Warrior God who sacrificed his sword arm to save the other deities (the word Tuesday derives from his name).

The hour of Mars is especially good for psychic self-defense and for courage in a crisis.

Planetary Days And Their Applications: Venus

Friday, the day of Venus, is associated with love and all forms of love magick, especially to attract love.

Venus rules harmony and peace, however, if the success of a love spell depends on ruining another person’s happiness and security, it tends not to work without repercussions on the spell-caster.

Venus is also invoked for beauty, the arts, crafts, and music, relationships, friendships, blossoming sexuality, the acquisition of beautiful possessions, and the slow but sure growth of prosperity, for Venus rules all matters of growth.

Like the Moon, she can be invoked for horticulture and the environment. This is because she can be associated with excesses of unwise love and romance. spells can be created in her name to reduce the influence of destructive lovers and possessiveness.

Also like the Moon, the spells of Venus are potent for fertility, and for matters of women’s health.

Venus is sometimes known as the morning or evening star. At her brightest, she is the most brilliant object in the sky, beside the Sun and Moon.

For this reason, in many cultures, she took the name of the goddess of beauty.

She was Ishtar to the Babylonians, Aphrodite to the Greeks and her Viking counterparts are the goddess Frigg, the Mother Goddess, and Freyja, maiden goddess of beauty and love, after one or both of whom Friday is named.

Spells at the hour of Venus are especially good for new love and the growth of self-love, for if we do not love ourselves we cannot love others creatively.

Jupiter corresponds to knowledge, understanding, good judgment, and prosperity.

It rules the concepts of expansion, opportunity, and good fortune.

Jupiter is a joyful planet that promotes abundance through realistic effort and hard work.

One thing that Jupiter helps people do is change their attitudes from a negative to positive.

Once the attitude changes, so does everything else, because if you have a positive frame of mind you can accomplish just about anything.

Use Jupiter to attract wealth and great riches, build dignity, acquire wisdom and make good judgments, improve moral values, increase financial health, and expand knowledge and understanding of religious and philosophical concepts.

Planets

Millions of years old, from ancient Babylon to modern times, the planets have always symbolized the essential forces of the universe. Equated with the gods, endowed with magickal attributes, and viewed as lights of influence, then and now the planets affect all aspects of daily life.

The sun and the moon, which dominated the daylight hours and night skies, were the first “planets” to be associated with the life-giving forces of the elements, seasons, and man’s day-to-day struggle to survive. These two luminaries were credited with the power to control the cyclic process and deified as the source of life itself.

As mythology and storytelling evolved, so did the godlike qualities of the celestial bodies, and their ability to control human existence.

Besides the sun and moon, the father and mother of the universe, other planetary gods and goddesses began to emerge, each with his or her own individual identity and domain of influence.

The sun, moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn (the sun and moon are regarded as planets in this sense) formed the original pantheon of heavenly powers that ruled over the affairs of humans. Each planet was assigned an area of influence that controlled the human endeavors within that realm.

For example, the Sun was equated with the Greek god Apollo, and governed strength, self-expression, and vitality, which were associated with leadership, royalty, and government.

Learning to use planetary energy makes magickal work easier, since each planet relates to everyday life in some way.

Basically, just about everything we do or seek to achieve is subordinate to a planetary force. Magickally, this means that everything in creation responds to a specific planetary energy. Therefore, if you know which energy rules or governs a certain object or event, then you can use the corresponding planetary power to influence it. The more you know about the planets and their corresponding attributes and symbols,
the more precise you can be in designing magickal rites.

Planetary Days And Their Applications

The Sun Sunday, the day of the Sun, is for spells for personal fulfilment and ambition, power and success, for increasing the flow of the life force, asserting or strengthening your identity and individuality, and for innovation of all kinds and new beginnings.

It is potent also for energy, joy, health prosperity, spiritual awareness, self-confidence, for bringing wealth and prosperity if there is poverty and failure, for breaking a run of bad luck, and for all matters concerning fathers.

Though there are powerful Sun goddesses, the Sun’s focus is mainly male/animus/ yang in both men and women.

Sun hour spells bring a surge of energy and vitality and so are excellent for personal empowerment and renewal.

It is also potent for protection, especially while travelling, for psychic development, clairvoyance, secrets and meaningful dreams, all sea and garden rituals and for herb magick and healing.

Although there are Moon Gods, lunar energies are primarily yin/female/anima in both men and women.

Moon hour spells are good for bringing unconscious powers to the fore and thus also for gaining magical insights and for bringing wishes into actuality.

In magick, it is most potent during these two Sun sign periods and for those born under Aries and Scorpio.

Mercury

Wednesday, the day of Mercury, is good for spells to assist money-making ventures, for clear communication, persuasion, adaptability and versatility, for improving memory and sharpening logic, for learning, examinations and tests, for mastering new technology, for short-distance or brief breaks, and for conventional methods of healing, especially surgery.

It is also potent for business negotiations, overcoming debts, repelling envy, malice and spite and those who would deceive.

For this reason, Mercury spells must always be used with honest intent.

Wednesday is also traditionally associated with divination.

Mercury, the planet nearest the Sun, completes its orbit in only 88 days and so is named after the fleet-footed messenger god who, like his Greek predecessor, Hermes, carried the healing caduceus.

He is also linked with the Anglo-Saxon god, Woden, after whom Wednesday is named.

Mercury hour spells are good for finding a quick way out of difficulties and for melting rigid opinions in others.

Jupiter

Thursday, the day of Jupiter, is good for all forms of increase and expansion, whether improving fortune or career prospects or bringing promotion, power, ambition and joy through fulfilment of objectives. Jupiter’s influence may be personal or more usually socially orientated; it is also potent for leadership, for conscious wisdom, creativity, for extending one’s influence in the wider world, for idealism, matters of justice and the law, authority and altruism. Jupiter increases what already exists, so can bring greater prosperity and abundance or success and good fortune. It rules marriage, permanent relationships (both business and personal), fidelity, loyalty and male potency in both the human and animal kingdom. Ironically, Jupiter can lead to excesses, including greed, addictions and obsessions, so it can also be used for banishing these. Jupiter, known as the Sky Father, was the supreme Roman god, ruler of the universe. Like Zeus, his Greek counterpart, Jupiter controlled the thunderbolts, which were carried by his eagle, the noblest of the birds. However, he ruled not despotically, but as the chief of a triumvirate of gods: the other two were Juno, his consort, and Minerva, goddess of wisdom, who made up the feminine principle of deeper, more instinctual wisdom. Use the hour of Jupiter to profit from an opportunity to upgrade your life. Jupiter spells are therefore especially potent in the period of Sagittarius and Pisces and at all times to those born under these Sun signs.

Venus

Friday, the day of Venus, is associated with love and all forms of love magick, especially to attract love. Because Venus rules harmony and peace, however, if the success of a love spell depends on ruining another person’s happiness and security, it tends not to work without repercussions on the spell-caster. Venus is also invoked for beauty, the arts, crafts and music, relationships, friendships, blossoming sexuality, the acquisition of beautiful possessions and the slow but sure growth of prosperity, for Venus rules all matters of growth. Like the Moon, she can be invoked for horticulture and the environment; because she can be associated with excesses of unwise love and romance, spells can be created in her name to reduce the influence of destructive lovers and possessiveness. Also like the Moon, the spells of Venus are potent for fertility and for matters of women’s health. Venus is sometimes known as the morning or evening star and at her brightest she is the most brilliant object in the sky besides the Sun and Moon. For this reason, in many cultures she took the name of the goddess of beauty. Element: Earth Colour: Green, pink Crystals: Amethyst, emerald, jade, moss agate, rose quartz Incenses: Geranium, rose, strawberry, vervain Trees: Almond, apple, birch Herbs and oils: Feverfew, mugwort, pennyroyal, verbena, yarrow Metal: Copper Venus rules Taurus, 21 April-21 May, and also Libra, 23 September-23 October. Venus spells are especially potent during these Sun sign periods and for those born under Taurus and Libra.

Saturn

Saturday, the day of Saturn, is potent for spells concerned with unfinished business, and with endings that lead to beginnings. It is therefore a good day for all slow-moving matters and for accepting limitations, as well as for overcoming obstacles that are long-standing or need careful handling. It also aids lifting depression or doubts, meditation, long-term psychic protection, locating lost objects, animals and people and regaining self-control whether over bad habits or emotions. It is also the planet of mystical experiences and of exploring the unconscious depths of the individual and collective psyche and for pastlife work. Saturn can be used to slow down the outward flow of money and to encourage repayment by those who owe you favours or money. It helps banish pain and illness and brings acceptance of what cannot be changed. Saturn is the shadow side of Jupiter, and offers the reality factor, the constraints of fate, time and space, but also turns challenge into opportunity, effort and perseverance. He represents the joy of Jupiter tempered by experience, the expansiveness of Jupiter held in check by caution. Saturn was the Roman form of Cronus, Greek god of time, who was deposed by his son Jupiter, after he had refused to allow natural change and progression. But even this led to joy, because Saturn was sent to Italy where he taught the farmers agriculture and engineering and he established a Golden Age of peace and plenty. Saturn hours are especially good for bringing patience and for dealing with long-terms obstacles and difficulties. Element: Earth Colour: Black/grey Crystals: Haematite, jet, lodestone, obsidian, smoky quartz Incenses: Aconite, cypress, patchouli Trees: Blackthorn, yew Herbs and oils: Aspen, bistort, comfrey, horsetail, Solomon’s seal Metal: Lead or pewter Saturn rules Capricorn, 22 December-20 January, and is co-ruler of Aquarius, 21 January-18 February. These Sun periods are most potent for Saturn spells and for those born under these signs at all times.
