Knot Magick

Knot magic works partly with the principle of
binding, which is a type of bidding spell, and
also with that of weaving, which was
traditionally a female intuitive occupation. It
utilizes ribbon, rope, string, yarn, or anything
that can be knotted or plaited to signify our
aspiration. It is a type of representational magic,
and is used in conjunction with many of the other
forms. The techniques of colour, form and use of
energies are all used in its practice.

Good Luck Knot Spell

Find yourself some red, white, yellow/gold, blue, and green string (or ribbon, yarn, embroidery thread, whatever).
Cut them into about 10 inch pieces. Ideally, the string should wrap around your wrist or ankle plus 2-3 inches, depending on the thickness of your knotting material. So 10 inches might be too much. Try to overestimate rather than underestimate.
Hold the threads together and make a knot with all of them saying/thinking/etc. “With this knot the spell’s begun”
Make a knot in the red string. “This knot is for luck.”
Make a knot in the yellow/gold string. “This knot is for wealth and prosperity.”
Make a knot in the blue string “This knot is for protection”
Make a knot in the green string. “This knot is for growth.”
Make a knot in the white string. “This knot is for preservation.”
Knot all the threads together. “And this knot is to bring it all together and bring this lucky boon to me.”
Then tie the cord around your wrist or ankle. Or you can carry it with you.
Ideally, you should be envisioning your intent while doing the spell but I’ve done this spell drunk at a bar with zero envisioning and only white packing twine and it worked great.

The Witch’s Knot

The Witch’s Knot, also known as the Witch’s Charm or Magic Knot, is comprised of four interlocking vesica piscis shapes. The knot can also be found with a central circle.

The vesica piscis is a shape that is the intersection of two circles with the same radius, intersecting in such a way that the center of each circle lies on the perimeter of the other. The name literally means the “bladder of a fish” in Latin. The shape is also called mandorla (almond in Italian).

The pointed oval sign, the vesica piscis, has also been called the Vessel of the Fish. “Fish” and “womb” were synonymous terms in ancient Greek delphos. Its link to fertility, birth, feminine sexuality and the natural force of women was acknowledged also by the Celts, as well as pagan cultures throughout northern Europe.

AIR MAGICK, Knot the Wind

Items Needed.

Three-strand of blue cord.

A Compass.

The calling or raising of the wind is can be seen as a very outdated magickal process, initially used when the wind was vital for cruising.

Witches were reputed to harness the power of the wind in a knotted cord, and then promote it to sailors.

When untied, the first knot would bring a gentle breeze.

The second would bring strong wind, and the third a gale. Modern Witches use the knot spell to for inspiration and creativity.

To harness the power of the wind you will need a strand of blue cord and a compass.

Go to the highest hilltop you can find. Face the East.

Take a number of deep, cleansing breaths.

Maintain the cord above your head.

When the wind begins to blow, tie the first knot, as you say the following,

I knot the wind, The wind of desire, I knot the wind, The wind that shall inspire.

Repeat the above conjuration as you tie the second and third knots.

Take just a few moments to really feel the cleaning energy of the wind.

Ask the wind to free you from all adverse ideas and vibrations.

Take your cord and hang it above your desk or workspace.

Whenever you really feel the need for inspiration, untie the first knot and say the following,

I free the wind The wind of desire I free the wind My mind to inspire.

The Witch’s knot

The Witch’s knot is a common symbol in folk magic. The witch’s knot is a symbolic representation of the knot magic practiced by witches in the middle ages, and was used as a sympathetic charm against witchcraft, and usually scratched over doorways of homes and stables. One aspect of its efficacy as a protective charm lay in the ability to draw the complicated symbol in one continuous motion.

Magickal Knots

Knot magick, sometimes referred to as cord magick, relies mainly on the powers of concentration and visualization. The cord and tying of the knots are points of focus that will link the thought-form to the individual or situation and bind it, or hold it in position. This type of magick is used to stop a person from harming him or herself or another, to stop a situation until it can be dealt with on the material plane; or to bind two people together for the purpose of love and marriage. As with all of magick, the instrument of the act is neutral, leaving the ramifications or outcome the responsibility of the individual performing the work.

Knot Magick

The knot is a symbol of linking, bonding, or the connection to protective powers. The Egyptians used the knot to symbolize life and immortality. The Isis knot, which resembles an ankh with its arms at its sides, was widely used as an amulet of binding and release. It represented the ability to hold the power of magick until it was ready to be released.

In magick and Witchcraft, the knot is used in conjunction with the Law of Mimicry and the Law of Similarity sometimes referred to as homoeopathic or imitative magick. These laws basically state that like produces like, or that an effect may resemble its cause. Simply put, whatever you do to the symbolic representation of a person, place or thing (such as a Voodoo doll), will directly affect that same person, place, or thing.

It is believed that to conjure up a good etheric intelligence during a healing or protection ritual, and then to knot a cord around the image of the subject being treated, will keep the etheric world helper close to the subject for protection.

This same principle is used in knot magick to bind an energy or force to an individual in need, or when untied to release the individual from an affliction or situation.

Knots

The tying and untying of knots is used to bind and release energy in many folk magic spells and formulas.

The ancient Egyptians and Greeks tied knots in cords for love spells. The “knot of Isis,” a red jasper amulet wound in the shroud of royal Egyptian mummies, summoned the protection of Isis and her son Horus for the dead in the next world. The ancient Romans believed knots could cause impotency, especially if three cords or ropes of different colors were tied in three knots while a couple recited wedding vows. According to Pliny, such marital woes could be prevented by rubbing wolf fat on the threshold of the wedding chamber

Other old beliefs about knots hold that the tying of them Sorcerer selling wind tied in knots to sailors prevents pregnancy in a woman, and the untying of them facilitates conception and childbirth. In mainstream religious practices, knotted fringe is believed to confuse and entangle evil spirits, one reason why priests wear collars with no ties, for evil spirits caught in tie knots would disrupt religious services.

Legend has it that the prophet Muhammad was bewitched by an evil man and his daughters, who tied 11 knots in a cord which they hid in a well. The spell made Muhammad ill, and he wasted away nearly to the point of death. To save him, God intervened and sent the archangel
Gabriel to reveal where the cord was hidden and how to break the spell. When the cord was brought to him, Muhammad recited 11 verses from the Koran. As he spoke each line, a knot loosened itself. When all the knots were undone, the spell was broken. In Sura CXIII in the Koran, Muhammad calls magicians’ work “the evil of [women who] are blowers on knots.”

Witches and sorcerers (see sorcery) were believed to be able to control wind with three knots tied into a rope, or sometimes a handkerchief. When the three knots were tied in the proper magical way, the wind was bound up in them. Sorcerers and witches sometimes sold their magic knots to sailors. The release of one knot brought a gentle, southwesterly wind, two knots a strong north wind and three knots a tempest. In the folklore of the Shetland Islands and Scandinavia, some fishermen are said to command the wind this way. The belief in controlling wind by tying it up goes back to the legends of ancient Greece. Odysseus received a bag of winds from Aeolus to help him on his journey.

In West African witchcraft, the tying of a knot while saying a person’s name gives the tier of the knot power over the person named. The power is retained as long as the knot remains tied. In the west of Ireland,an old method for healing sick cattle called for a worm knot, a piece of twine tied in certain knots and dragged over the animal’s back. If the twine went smoothly, the cow would recover; if it caught and hitched, the animal would die.

In magic, knots are used to bind and loosen deities and power; as tools in psychic attack and defense; and in magical snares. Magic knots also have the power to kill. According to a medieval formula, a witch’s ladder, made of a string with nine knots, when hidden, causes a victim to die a slow death.

Many contemporary Witches use knots in cord magic. In one method, the Witch ties nine knots while chanting and/or visualizing her objective. By the ninth knot, the spell is complete and the magic power is stored within the knots. According to some formulas, the spell is then effected by the untying of the knots, usually one at a time over a period of nine days; according to others, the cord is tied into a circle. Cord magic is also done by a coven as a group. Slip knots are worked in cords, and the magical power is released when the knots are loosened.
