One approach to exploring personal empowerment in witchcraft involves a ritual that focuses on breaking free from internalized limitations.
The ritual typically includes the following items:
A black candle,
an athame or sharp object,
a bowl of saltwater,
and a mirror.
The process often begins with casting a circle, followed by lighting the black candle and placing it in front of the mirror. Participants may gaze into the mirror to reflect on aspects of themselves that have been influenced or restricted by external forces. The athame is then dipped into the saltwater and held up to the mirror, sometimes accompanied by a spoken affirmation such as: “I sever the ties that bind me to fear, guilt, and limitation. I reclaim my power, my will, and my destiny.” Visualization of cutting through symbolic cords or chains may be included, and the affirmation is often repeated three times. The ritual usually concludes with grounding, centering, expressing gratitude to any elements or deities involved, and closing the circle.
